Connecting:Makers

Scott Fitzloff - Cinematography & Editor

This is part 2 of a series I worked on at Bassett & Partners in their collaboration with Microsoft. The film explores themes of technology, not as something separate from humans, but as an extension of what it means to be human. We have evolved to be makers, now what do we make? What are the roles of professional designers and engineers as they assume responsibility for the new abilities that humans are gaining? A highlight for me was meeting Bill Buxton who created the original multitouch interface in in 1985, a great thinker and very genuine person.

Some of the interesting challenges of this project were deciding how to shoot b-roll for future concepts which do not yet exist in a way that allows the viewer to 'fill in the gaps' with their imagination. Also, it was instrumental to convey a 'human' feeling while discussing technology.
